San Pedro was founded between 1860-1870 by General Manuel Gutiérrez de la Concha and is a municipality of Marbella. It is in constant development and the town hall of Marbella has built an underground tunnel through the village to improve the traffic flow and to give it a new look (more greenery, less traffic) with the aim of pleasing residents and attracting more tourists. The construction of the tunnel was finished in January 2012 and they are now working on the landscaping.
But that’s not to say that San Pedro isn’t already lovely with its small shops, many Spanish tapas bars and everything at affordable prices. In October this place vibrates for 7 days with the annual “Feria”. Everyone either joins the party on the street or participates in the procession on horses or wagons, with women dressed in typical Sevillana dresses and the men in their traditional outfits. The streets are filled with food and beverage stations, people dance to loud music and when the Feria del día closes and you haven’t had enough yet, follow the celebration as it moves on to Feria de Noche, which is close by and is a classical parish fair.
The beachside of San Pedro de Alcántara is a very popular living area, with its recently renovated attractive beach promenade connecting San Pedro with Puerto Banus and Marbella. Very well-located and elegant apartments, townhouses and villas can be purchased here, benefiting from being walking distance to the village centre and the beach at the same time.
San Pedro apartments and San Pedro townhouses offer great value for money, and San Pedro villas can be purchased at significantly lower prices than neighbouring ones in Marbella and residential Puerto Banus.
Many developments which were built close by the main traffic road benefit from good quality and sizes, but haven’t been very popular due to traffic noise. But thanks to the new tunnel, this will be a thing of the past. Instead of beeping cars you will have a park outside your home and all you will have to do is decide whether to walk to the beach for lunch or enjoy the laid back atmosphere of the old town in one of the popular fish restaurants.
